After The Heimlich Maneuver Fails In Outdoor Recreation?

admin on Nov-21-2009

You were engaged in Outdoor Recreation and have seen
three seperate attempts using Heimlich Maneuver fail to dislodge throat obstruction of person(s) most beloved by
reader. Do you watch face(s) go from blue to the darker
color of death because paramedic help clearly won’t arrive
in time to save victim(s)? What can reader do to restore
breathing? Describe proceedure and ad-hoc equipment.

hi there
no choice now but to do an emergency tracheotomy, need a knife and a piece of tubing with at least a 1/4 inch hole, in the hollow of the throat 2 finger widths above the chest bone, using a finger tip you can feel the cartilage of the treac.between the cartilage you must push the tip of the knife blade in, no more than 1/2 inch, pull out the blade and slide the tube in, see if you can find a way to secure the tube from being sucked in to the incision, wrap some absorbent material around the tube to soak up the blood .transport immediately to nearest hospital, good luck

An emergency tracheotomy is harder than it sounds, and if you perform this procedure, you are no longer covered by the Good Samaratin Law (law designed to prevent lay rescuers from being sued), because that procedure is considered an advanced level of care. You might even be prosecuted for practicing medicine without a license, especially if you screw up (pretty likely if not trained.
If I were in that position, I’d continue to perform the Heimlich maneuver. When the patient becomes further unconscious and those muscles relax, the Heimlich can often become much more effective.
